Fighting The Flu

I don't have to reiterate how much getting the flu freaks me out especially down here in Southwest Florida. It's one of the worst states with Swine Flu Cases. Hannah has had a cough/stuffy/runny nose since the second week of school. She came home yesterday non-stop coughing. I mean she could barely get a breath in. The first thing I do when they get home is throw her in the bathtub. Literally. She's more prone to illness than Mackenzie. Her little immune system can't take it. She's had two doses of the flu vaccine since she was born and got sick right after both of them so I haven't been a fan of getting them vaccinated. I stay on top of the juices and foods loaded with vitamins & minerals but before last night, I decided I was going to take them after school today to get the flu shot. I then proceeded to get the girls ready for bed, gave Hannah some Robitussin and tucked them in by 7:30. She immediately sounded worse and could not catch a break from the hacking. Within the hour she was burning up and threw up probably due to coughing so much. There is nothing like Mommy's Love that can make your baby feel better. In-Between running to the bathroom with her, changing the bedding, throwing the blankets in the wash, tucking her in again, plopping her pillow, making her comfortable, getting her water, a cool washcloth, clorox wiping the floors & countertops(again), lysol spraying everything and rubbing her back, I probably washed my hands about fifty times.  I know it's not good to constantly wash your hands but I have a serious OCD problem when it comes to hand washing. In the moment, I don't even realize how long I'm standing there washing them. I think I stood in her bathroom and washed for five minutes then straight to the kitchen to pour Dawn on them and wash for another five, then finish with antibacterial soap and I continuously scrub them. I'm afraid of germs and I'm probably causing more damage by not allowing bacteria on myself. In the back of my mind, I'm saying okay stop washing now but I start thinking of something else when I realize I have been at the sink way too long. I checked on her throughout the night. By this morning, she was still warm and sleeping. Obviously no school for her. She got up with us to take Mackenzie to school and the first thing that came out of her mouth was, "Mom, I want to get on the compoooter."  Looking all worn out and tired, the computer was her first concern. I carried her down to the garage and she was in her glory, saying "wheeee" and giggling. It amazes me to see her so sick trying to fight the illness just to be a kid! She's so sweet and loving. She's my baby and I hate the fact that they get sick but that's life and we have to take care of it. I'm not sure if the flu shot will help now that she's already sick. I'll have to find out. As far as the rest of us, we're getting them today or tomorrow. I wish all of you good health and hope your babies are well. It breaks my heart to see them hurting.

Fudge~alicious

Baking is one of my favorite things to do with the girls. Kenz is at the age where she wants to cook and she really enjoys helping me in the kitchen. It was long overdue, we needed to bake something! So what's better than making fudge. It's simple, easy and fun!

What you need:

2 Cups Mini Marshmallows
1 1/2 Cup Sugar
12 oz.(1 bag) Nestle Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
5 oz. Carnation Evaporated Milk
2 Tablespoons Butter

Boil the sugar, butter and milk in pan. Stir for 4 minutes once it starts boiling. Remove from heat. Add Marshmallows, choc. chips, mix well. Place in 8x8 square carton & fridge for 2 hours. Cut when hard.

Yum...enjoy

& This Is What We Do Before Going To School

The girls were up earlier today than most days. They get up and start helping themselves. Hannah has been Miss Jibber Jabber lately. She's non stop talking and it drives me nuts especially when she's supposed to be eating. On top of that I come out of my room and she's sitting at the table eating her bagel without a shirt on. It's my fault. I told them not to eat with their school shirts on in case they have an ooopsie. She must have been anxious to get dressed this morning and remembered that she needed to eat first., so there she sits in her skirt, socks and dress shoes.  She takes forever to eat, partially because she's jabbering about the fish they're getting at school and how the boys play with her hair. I finally got her into the bathroom to do all of the business. Hair is done, teeth brushed, faced washed, sunscreen on, shirt tucked in, on we go.... Mackenzie is pretty much independent. I wanted to do her hair today though because she always wears it the same way. So we're ready to hit the road and go to school...meanwhile I start recording. This was our adventure to school this morning. Enjoy...

I can't help it....

I'm in love with CSI. I can't get enough. I have the hots for Adam Rodriguez-Who doesn't?! I will seriously lay in bed all day and watch this on Spike, A & E or CBS. I don't care if they are re-runs, his smile makes me happy:)

A Splash Of Softness

During the summer my skin is nice because I lay in the sun and get a nice tan. I use the hawaiian tropic with spf and it makes my skin oh so soft. But now that it's fall and back to school, we haven't been out in the sun at all. My arms started getting these little white bumps on them and the skin was a bit rough! I'm a nut about picking at things that don't belong and was getting upset that they weren't going away...duh....

I was going to get acne treatment but grabbed -Clean & Clear Morning Burst. I tried it and my arms felt so much better after one use. Good Stuff ehhh?! No need to just use it on your face-use it all over. The smoothness is refreshing and I feel tons better. If you haven't tried it-I recommend.

The One & Only Miss Hannah D

Miss Hannah, 5 is always making me laugh. She has a way of brightening your day and making you smile with whatever she's doing. She got in the car after school and I noticed a little scratch under her eye with some red marks on her nose. "Who beat you up?" I asked, just about crying (me)....she said, "I dunno!" She finally said she fell on the playground and hurt her face.  Poor thing!  I hate when the kids get hurt. She acts as if nothing bothers her. She loves taking photos. She's hilarious to watch. She loves dressing up and adores Mom's shoes. I put on my comfy socks I bought at target for $2 (2 pack) and she went in my drawer to put the other ones on. She's my girly girl. Hannah's Style def. describes Miss H.

My New Best Friend

You all know I love My Coffee. Well I still do but I've become closer with Pomegranate this past month. I've been staying away from caffeine and drinking my new best friend. The headaches are getting better. It's been 3 days in a row without a major one. YAY!! If you struggle with migraines/headaches, you know it's a relief when you go a full day without one.

I'm the type of person who just has a coffee/tea for breakfast but I've changed my complete lifestyle since the girls are in school. Even if I'm not hungry I just make a slice of wheat toast or an english muffin. I have to take my vitamins with food so even a banana helps. I'm learning how to eat more healthy everyday. I've been a health nut for a while but some days I get pushed back....you know how that goes?! We all have our days. This past week I bought my sour cream & onion chips, barbecue for the others. I tell you I could not even eat any. The two bags went in the garbage. That's how you know your doing well when your stomach doesn't want the goodies! I've wasted money on so much food it's so not funny.

Anyways, I love this brand of tea....Bentley's! It's really good & rich in antioxidants. I was reading somewhere that Pomegranate helps with fertility and I was excited but then remembered that I had my tubes tied. Yes, I keep thinking now that my baby is five I might want another. And then I think no, I'm glad I'm done!
